Common femoral endarterectomy is a very good operation when the anatomical blockage is suitable. It is usually a very durable operation (meaning that it stays open over the long-term) and requires a much smaller incision than the typical leg artery bypass. The extent to which it relieves pain with walking ("claudication") varies from patient to patient depending upon the particular pattern of the arterial blockages.
